Brazil is the olympic champion and won almost every game in straight sets. If Brazil didn't play Russia at semi or gold medal it is all Russia's fault for playing nothing at OG.

And btw this match at the OG was one of the very few when both Brazil and Russia could play with all their players, no one left out. Paula even blocked Gamova in a single block.

So please, as a brazilian fan, stop with this whole "Brazil chokes in final". We have a lot of GPs title, 3 silvers at WC, 2 bronzes and a GOLD at OG. I believe that aside deserves some respect. Even Sokolova said she would trade her 2 WC wins for a gold medal at OG.

We lost to Russia in 2006 and 2010 but we didn't have our full squad while Russia did. And the reason we lost is simple "Russia played better and deserved those 2 WC". Don't say Brazil choke because we lost in 5th set and we fought as much as we could.

Brasil has commited lots of mistakes both in the 1st and 3rd sets and that's why they won only by a 2-point difference.

Russia's coach was so naive in the end of the 1st set, Russia was leading and he decides to score a block point and decides to replace the setter by a taller player and leaves the team without a setter. Brazil can't confirm the point but the Russia's team has no player to organize their attack and as result they pass an easy ball to the Brazilian team which eventually scores with Fabiana. Starseva is not a short player, she's a 1,85 m- setter. If Kuziutkin wanted to try a block point, he should've replaced a player in the back of the court by the setter so that they would've had the chance of winning the point with a counter attack. Or at least he should have defined which player would be in charge of setting in case of a counter attack.

As for Startseva, she is not as bad as Sheshenina or Akulova cause these players set terribly with Artamonova, Sokolova and the main libero on court. Russia's service reception will improve a lot with the return of Sokolova. If Startseva performs like she did this WGP after the return of Sokolova, then we can say that her performance last year's WCH was the exception to the rule and her normal game is the one we saw this WGP, which I believe is not the case.

It is nice to see this straight-set victory over Russia even without being able to count with Mari and Paula. Jaqueline is also out but Fernanda Garay is showing all her talent and potential. I am really glad with the performances of Thaisa, Fabiana and Tandara. I hope Brazil could keep the good work and have full force in the coming World Cup.

As for injured players, Brazil had them also in this game. Both Paula and Mari weren't playing nowhere close Beijing lvl and their subs, Natalia and Fernanda Garay, although struggling in reception sometimes, played well. As of now, final stage GP Brazil (with natalia and F Garay) outplays initial stage Brazil. We may actually say that Brazil won this particular game because they had injured players. :) That and the missing players in the russian NT, a huge factor on how russia played below WCH lvl.
Someone pointed out that Russia's reception, at this GP, is terrible. That is certainly not the case with Sokolova and Kryuchkova in the NT and we, brazilians, are painfully aware of that.
