Karşıyaka SK İzka 2010-2011
Karşıyaka SK Izka is the women's volleyball branch of Karşıyaka S.K., a major and unique women’s volleyball team in Izmir, Aegian Region, Turkey. The club is sponsored by Izka Construction Group. Karşıyaka SK Izka play their matches in Karşıyaka Arena (5000 seats).
Karşıyaka SK was founded in 1912, one of the eldest sports clubs in Turkey, eldest in Izmir and Aegian Region. In 1982, volleyball brach was founded and has been promoted to Turkish First League and has never been relegated from the First League in 25 years.
Green-Reds shined in 2006-07 season with transfers and got the most successful degree in club history. The team finished 3.rd the league of 2006-07 season. Yelena Shabovta, Natalia Mozorova, Neriman Özsoy and Arzu Göllü were our transfers that season and they helped us for this success.
Karşıyaka SK has been lastest joined CEV CUP in 2002-2003, 2005-2006, 2007-2008 seasons, has succeeded to reach 1/16 and quarterfinal games in club history.
Major characteristics of Karşıyaka team is struggle against difficulties and never give up the struggle even rival team is stronger than Karşıyaka. Karşıyaka SK has well known affective supporters and great club culture in team sports like basketball and volleyball. From 1982 to 2010 Karşıyaka SK has always the majority (like 70-80 %) of their players from its youth teams, like Sukran Akar, Sinem Akap, Nilay Ozdemir, Asli Koprulu, Tugba Toprak (former players of Karşıyaka SK) And Turkey's well known former national team player Ozlem Ozcelik is a Karşıyaka native too. And now 7 players in 2010-2011 squad are from our youth teams as well, Gamze Korkmaz (formerly U18 national team member), Rabia Eroglu (captain), Hande Sahbaz (U18 national team member), Gizem Ocal, Pelin Ceylan, Simay Akkaya, Busra Mutlu. And our head coach Ismail Yengil is also the head coach of Turkey U18 National Team.
