Coskovic to gain Turkish citizenship

Rumor has it that Fenerbahçe have been making preparations to grant Croatian Tomislav Coskovic Turkish citizenship in the midst of the talks about a potential quota restriction on foreign players clubs can roster.
In his meeting with the press officials, the Federation Chair Erol Ünal Karabıyık stated that the decision made in May 2009 regarding the quota on foreign players is still valid but that “if clubs come up with proposals that will have positive trickle-down effects on our national teams, this decision may of course change” to signal that the limit on foreign players may be modified.
Fenerbahçe, on the other hand, seem to have another formula for the possibility of a quota on foreign players. The team in yellow-blue who have been rostering Coskovic for the last 3 seasons plans to acquire Turkish citizenship for him and now is waiting for a positive answer from the federation.
According to the regulations, even though a player is entitled to Turkish citizenship, he cannot be cast as a player of Turkish status in the league unless he plays for the national team. That is, even if Coskovic or any other players becomes a Turkish citizen, that player will still be considered as a foreign player without being cast into the national team.
The chances are Coskovic may well play in the national team. Considering our outside hitter problems in Men’s National Team, Coskovic looks like a good solution for the national team in the short term.
