FIVB President election

Doug Beal Announces FIVB Presidential Candidacy

source:http://usavolleyball.org/news/2012/02/16…candidacy/46710

LOS ANGELES (Feb. 16, 2012) – In the same city where he established his international reputation by coaching the U.S. Men’s National Volleyball Team to the Olympic Games gold medal in 1984, Doug Beal is on another quest for volleyball - this time officially announcing his candidacy for the presidency of FIVB, the International Volleyball Federation.

Given the strong support from USA Volleyball and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC), Beal is eager to use his international experience to lead world volleyball.

With a life dedicated to volleyball, Beal has seen the sport from every angle. He started as a player, then moved into an elite coaching career and is currently CEO of USA Volleyball. Beal has proven a strong candidate for the FIVB presidency through his tireless work on the Board of Administrations for both FIVB and NORCECA (North, Central American and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation).

In his announcement today, Beal stated “Volleyball has the greatest potential for growth and expansion of any Olympic team sport, but the root of all this greatness lies within our individual National Federations. My vision for the future starts with National Federations and ensuring their potential is realized – they are the foundation of the volleyball family.”

Giving his full support to Doug Beal, USA Volleyball President Emeritus Mr. Al Monaco stated, “Doug Beal is one of the great visionaries for volleyball. With his professionalism and vision for the future, he will bring a new and exciting direction for world volleyball. He is the right leader to serve the FIVB and its National Federations.”

USOC CEO Scott Blackmun further reiterated these words of support by stating, “Doug is a strong leader who is tirelessly dedicated and committed to building the brand of volleyball throughout the world. As one of the top sports leaders and managers in the United States, I have no doubt that he would be a great leader for volleyball internationally and take the sport to an even higher level globally under his stewardship.”

Further, the USA Volleyball’s Board of Directors backs Beal’s quest to serve the sport of volleyball as FIVB president. “On behalf of the USA Volleyball Board of Directors, we are proud to support Doug Beal's candidacy for FIVB president,” USA Volleyball Board Chairman Adam Rymer said. “His accomplishments over the last seven years as the CEO of USA Volleyball with respect to financial performance, membership growth and player development and performance have been exemplary. His tremendous international knowledge of the sport, from a historical, competitive and political perspective, has been a prized asset for this organization, and we believe strongly in his potential to lead volleyball forward on the world stage.”

The FIVB presidential elections will take place at the FIVB Congress scheduled for Sept. 19-21, 2012 in Anaheim, California.

Doug Beal: Is the current CEO of USA Volleyball and a member of the FIVB Board of Administration as well as the NORCECA Board of Administration. He has been involved in numerous positions within volleyball over the years and his international reputation was established when he coached the U.S. Men’s National Team to the 1984 Olympic Games gold medal. Doug Beal, who holds doctorate degrees from Ohio State University and from Springfield College, lives with his wife and their two children in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Brazil basically has had a big advantage because the men's and women's teams have played at incredibly high levels.

Maybe Brazil hosts the 2018 World Champs. Maybe Brazil hosts the 2015 World Cup Olympic Qualifier. A World League Finals?

Are those bad things?

I would love to have more international events in the USA, the FIVB has chosen not to do that. With Beal, this probably would have happened.
